Tuftonboro, NH | Lake Winnipesaukee Carriage House
Set along the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee, this new carriage house was designed as a complementary addition to an existing lakefront residence in Tuftonboro, New Hampshire. The goal was to create a structure that would provide practical storage and parking while also introducing a comfortable, independent living space for family and guests.
The approximately 1,500-square-foot, two-story carriage house accommodates an automobile and golf cart on the first floor, with a dedicated entry vestibule leading to a second-floor suite. Two bedrooms, a bathroom, living area, and kitchenette provide all the amenities needed for extended stays while maintaining a sense of separation from the main residence.
With the lake as a defining feature of the site, the second floor was carefully oriented to take advantage of the expansive water views. At the same time, the design was intentionally rooted in the character of the existing home. Traditional forms, proportions, and exterior detailing were carried through the new structure, creating a cohesive relationship between the two buildings.
The finished carriage house balances the practical demands of a modern lake property with the timeless character of its New Hampshire setting; creating a versatile retreat that feels both new and naturally at home.
