South Boston, Massachusetts
Latitude was hired to renovate this South Boston condo.
This used to be a classroom. Or a dormitory. Or maybe a headmaster's office, nobody's totally sure anymore, because the building stopped being a school decades before our client bought the unit inside it.
What didn't get lost: the bones. Arched window surrounds, slate mansard, a rooflines that still reads "institutional" from the street — none of which prepares you for what's on the other side of that brick.
Total gut renovation. New kitchen, built around a problem most kitchens ignore, our client works from home half the week and didn't want a desk bolted into a corner somewhere. So the desk became the kitchen, a custom mahogany work surface, integrated into the cabinetry, engineered to adjust height so she can sit or stand without rearranging her life around a chair. It's furniture. It's also infrastructure.
Every bathroom got rebuilt. A wet bar landed off the kitchen, open to the living room, because entertaining and working from home turned out to need the same square footage, just at different hours.
